Paul Brady's 'Smile' (studio live)

ポール・ブレーディの新曲 ＜Smile＞ を聞いていると、ジョン・レノンの ＜Imagine＞ へのアンサー・ソングではないかという気がしてくる。BBC Radio 2 のマイク・ハーディングの番組の3月2日放送分でポールは2曲ほどスタジオ生演奏をしているが、その内の一曲がこれだ。最新アルバム 《Say What You Feel》 のトラック1の曲である。ポールはギター一本の弾語りのほうが歌が心にしみる。
＜Smile＞ の歌詞のリフレーンや第五連に特に ＜イマジン＞ と響き合うものを感じる。

この第五連の 'I could be just a dreamer' は ＜イマジン＞ の歌詞の 'You may say I'm a dreamer' を意識したものという気がする。
ハーディングの番組は放送後一週間に限り聞けるので、ブレーディーの生ヴァーションが聴きたい人はぜひ3月9日までに。なお、去年もちょうどセント・パトリックス・デーの頃に、ポールはマイクの番組に出ていたらしい。それもマイクのコナマラの家のスタジオで。そこには、なんとシャン・ノース・ステップ・ダンサーの Brian Cunningham も来ていた。下の写真はそのステップに感心したポールが写真を撮っているところ。
